【作品説明】
私は普段「見えるものと見えないもの」という布の中に何かがいるのを想像してもらう絵を平面で描いています。今回熊の置物に絵付けをするプロジェクトを頂いたときに、熊に布がかぶさっているような表現をしたいと思いました。そのためガーゼとモデリングペーストで熊の凹凸感をなくし、ツルツルな表面を作るために下地材を塗り、やすりをかけるとゆう工程を何度も繰り返しました。
色付けは油絵具を使用し、何層も色をのせることで色の深みを出しています。元々の熊の置物がどんなのだったのか想像して見ていただけたら面白いと思います。

西川美穂

1989 年栃木県出身。2013 年多摩美術大学大学院博士前期課程美術研究科絵画専攻油画研究領域 修了。
お笑いタレント又吉直樹さんが執筆された芥川賞受賞作品「火花」の装丁画に自身の作品「イマスカ」が採用される。油彩画、水彩画を描き本の装丁画に起用される。

[Explanation of item]
Miho Nishikawa usually paints an 2-dimensioinal artwork which makes people think what is in the between a cloth and the canvas, in other words, between "visible and invisible". The project was to colour an object (bear), it did not take her time to come up with an idea to cover the bear with a cloth. So she has decided to cover a sheet of gauze to the bear and change the bumpy surface of bear into a smooth surface using modeling paste. In order to make the surface, she repeated to apply the modeling paste and sand the surface to make it smooth as possible.

She has used oil painting for the colouring, and she has painted the colours in many layers in order to turn out the colours more meaningful. Please enjoy watching the bear imagiing its original figure.

Miho Nishikawa
Born in Tochigi, 1989
Completed Master's Programme at Tama Art University Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, Oil Painting Research Area. Her painting ""imasuka (Japenese: イマスカ)"" was selected as a design of a novel cover of ""Hanabi (Japenese: 花火)"" (author: Naoki Matayoshi, Japanese comedian) which won the Akutagawa Prize. Her oil paintings and watercolour paintings are used for book bindings.
